Job Description: Secondary English Teacher – Maternity Cover (IBDP & IGCSE preferrable) (Cover period: November 2026 - February 2027)

Responsibilities:

- Teach English across different year levels in Secondary School, according to the School’s curriculum and students’ learning needs.
- Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and student-centred lessons that develop students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, critical thinking and literary analysis.
- Maintain continuity of learning during the maternity cover period by following established schemes of work, curriculum plans and assessment schedules.
- Set high academic standards and expectations, encouraging students to challenge themselves and achieve their full potential.
- Plan, assess and monitor students’ learning and progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
- Differentiate teaching strategies and learning activities to accommodate students with different abilities, language proficiency and learning needs.
- Create a positive, inclusive and well-managed classroom environment that promotes active participation and a genuine interest in English language and literature.
- Work collaboratively with members of the English Department on lesson planning, assessment, moderation and sharing of teaching resources.
- Maintain effective communication with students, parents and colleagues regarding students’ learning, progress and areas requiring additional support.
- Contribute to the wider life of the School and undertake pastoral, supervisory and other professional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: - A recognised Bachelor’s degree or above in English, English Literature, Education or a related discipline.
- A recognised teaching qualification.
- Relevant experience teaching Secondary English, preferably within an international school environment.
- Experience with IGCSE and/or IBDP English curricula will be an advantage.
- Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach students across different Secondary year levels.
- Ability to set high standards and expectations and motivate students with different abilities and learning needs.
- Strong classroom management, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a multicultural and international school environment.
- Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to integrate quickly into an established department and ensure a smooth continuation of students’ learning.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Commitment to student wellbeing, safeguarding and the School’s educational values.
